Edgar Berlanga isn't easily surprised but on May 31, he couldn't believe what he was watching that night. Caleb Plant found himself in one of the most difficult fights of his career, ultimately suffering a 12-round upset defeat by Jose Resendiz in their Prime Video main event at the Michelob Ultra Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.

California resident Resendiz was rightly viewed as a sizable underdog as he descended upon the world's fight capital but by the final bell, there was only one winner between former sparring partners. A Berlanga-Plant matchup had marinated for a few years but now, after damaging defeats for both in the last year, the interest has naturally dwindled.

Although questions over Plant's physical decline are warranted as he looks slower and less defensively elusive than usual, Berlanga (23-1, 18 KOs) doesn't believe that fight is completely dead. The 28-year-old remembers every derogatory word Plant previously used to describe him and so, still wants to put hands on the former IBF world champion.

"I still wanna fight him," Berlanga admitted to Fight Hub TV. "He's still a name in the sport. I still wanna f--- him up. All that s--- he was talking, still wanna beat the s--- outta him."

Before those two settle their issues between the ropes, they've both got assignments to take care of first. Berlanga welcomes Hamzah Sheeraz to the super middleweight division tonight as they headline 'Ring III' at the Louis Armstrong Stadium in Queens, New York.

He wholeheartedly believes he'll hold up his end of the bargain and after that, will be waiting to see if Plant (23-3, 14 KOs) can right his own wrongs by doing the same.

"Obviously he gotta do that rematch, gotta beat that dude [Resendiz] and look good doing it, but I don't mind giving him the fight."
