Everything is going exactly according to plan for Emiliano Vargas.

Even if you tried, you’d have a hard time finding a hotter prospect. From his million-dollar smile to his quick left hook, Vargas (13-0, 11 KOs) looks like the goods. The competition he’s been facing, however, hasn’t been impressive. Candidly, actually, it’s been pretty poor but Vargas hasn't been playing with his food.

For now, Vargas has to crank his neck upwards when discussing the rest of the lightweight division. At the very top, he may have to squint but he can clearly see Keyshawn Davis, amongst others.

Since both are associated with Top Rank, a matchup between them is slowly marinating but fans shouldn’t expect them to take their showdown off the grill anytime soon. A bit of seasoning and time needs to take place first but when the timer rings, indicating that it’s time to make the fight happen, Vargas believes he’ll be more than ready.

“He’s a champion,” said Vargas to Sean Zittel recently. “I think he’s a great fighter but I think I beat him when the time is right.”

Davis (13-0, 9 KOs) loves hearing his name being associated with the word champion. He did, after all, earn that right. In his last ring appearance this past February, he made it look easy against Denys Berinchyk, beating him down and stopping in New York’s Madison Square Garden.

Most, if not all, would love to fight for a world title as soon as possible. Vargas though, isn’t in a rush. The 20-year-old knows that rushing may result in a premature end result. As long as he takes his time and follows the instructions of those guiding his career, he’s confident that he’ll turn into a global star.
