"My dream of becoming a world champion is going to happen very soon," Vargas said. "Anybody who's in my way of becoming world champion, I would want to fight next. Whether it's the WBO, WBA, WBC, IBF, any single one of those, I want to fight these guys."

Vargas (18-0, 15 KOs), The Ring's 2025 Prospect of the Year, is rated in the top 15 by the four major sanctioning bodies, including the No. 1 spot with the WBO.

Ring champion Shakur Stevenson also holds the WBO title following his landslide unanimous decision against Teofimo Lopez in January.

It remains to be seen what Stevenson's next move will be after signing with Zuffa Boxing in July, and if he would give an up-and-coming fighter like Vargas a crack at his crown. But The Ring's No. 3 pound-for-pound fighter has proven that he's ready for all comers, no matter where they stand in their careers.

Stevenson signed to take on then-22-year-old upstart Floyd Schofield last year, but he pulled out of the contest on fight week citing illness.

Vargas, the son of former junior middleweight champion Fernando Vargas, should be an incredibly marketable and qualified candidate for Stevenson after a few more step-up fights.

"El General" has already fought twice this year and stopped Agustin Quintana as well as Bryce Mills last time out in June. Vargas appears to have one more ring walk left in him for 2026, and he's anticipating it to be on a significant show.

"We want to do one more fight this year, and we want to do it big," Vargas said. "We're talking about it for October or November."
