On March 28, the light heavyweight contender lost his unbeaten record when Willy Hutchinson outthought and outboxed him over 10 rounds at Manchester’s Co-Op Live Arena. The nature of the defeat caused many to write off the 32-year-old’s hopes of reaching the top of the sport.

Rather than listening to the naysayers, Taylor (13-1, 9 KOs) studied how other fighters have reacted to defeat and he's eager to show what he's learned when he returns to Manchester to fight former European champion Brad Rea (22-2, 11 KOs) at AO Arena November 7, live on DAZN.

“One person that I can say right now that's close to home is Daniel Dubois. You look at his career and it's amazing. Honestly, I'm so happy for him and his team, him and Don Charles,” Taylor told The Ring.

“They lost to Joe Joyce and he had to go, essentially, the longer route. The hard route as well. His resume is serious and he's come out on top.”

Throughout his rapid rise, Taylor has carried himself as though losing has never crossed his mind. The Malik Scott-trained fighter boxed in the same confident manner on his way up and his right hand earned him a number of eye-catching finishes.

The defeat to Hutchinson forced him to confront a side of the sport he never thought he would see but rather than shy away from the prospect of building himself back up, Taylor has embraced the challenge.

“That's what boxing is. Boxing is building your story, creating your story, going through the ups and downs and coming out on top and pushing through,” he said.

“There's nothing like it and, with me, I've won with my team, I've now lost with my team and now I'm on my way to win again. It's going to be an amazing feeling when we hold that world title at the end of the journey and be able to look back and see all the hurdles that we've gone through.”
