Floyd Schofield Jr. is back in the fold after a fight-week illness forced him to pull out of his February 22 bout against WBC lightweight champion Shakur Stevenson.
Floyd Schofield Jr. is back in the fold after a fight-week illness forced him to pull out of his February 22 bout against WBC lightweight champion Shakur Stevenson.
Schofield Jr. and Lucas Bahdi are deep in negotiations to face each other June 28 on the card headlined by Jake Paul and Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California.
"I think it will get done, I don't have any doubt about it," Schofield Jr.'s manager and advisor, Michael Miller, told The Ring on Wednesday. "He's fighting on the 28th either against Bahdi or an equal opponent."
Schofield Jr. is represented by Golden Boy, who’s handling the co-promotion of the event alongside Most Valuable Promotions, Paul’s company and Bahdi’s promoter.
“Kid” Schofield Jr. (18-0, 12 KOs), a 22-year-old from Austin, Texas, last fought in November and was knocked down by Rene Tellez Giron in the 11th round of his first career 12-rounder.
“Prince” Bahdi (19-0, 15 KOs), a 31-year-old from Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada, kicked his career into new heights in July when he viciously knocked out touted prospect Ashton Sylve. After scoring a majority decision win against another undefeated fighter in Armando Casamonica in November, Bahdi signed a promotional deal with Paul. Schofield handed the first career loss to a third straight fighter in March when he scored a unanimous decision against Ryan James Racaza.
Schofield Jr. vs. Bahdi would add to the DAZN PPV card that features a co-main event between WBA and WBO cruiserweight champion Gilberto “Zurdo” Ramirez and Yuniel Dorticos.
