An abundance of high-profile opportunities await O'Shaquie Foster if he outhustles and outmuscles Emanuel Navarrete on Saturday when they square off in a junior lightweight title unification clash.
Foster (25-3, 12 KOs), the WBC titleholder, and Navarrete (40-2-1, 33 KOs), the IBF and WBO champion, will meet at Frost Bank Center in San Antonio to headline a Top Rank card on DAZN. The vacant Ring title will also be on the line. (8 p.m. ET; 1 a.m. BST)
"Ice Water" Foster is promising a career-best win against Navarrete. If the chilling proposition proves to be true, the 33-year-old Houston native will have a well of options to consider in 2027.
"I think this win is gonna stamp me as one of the best in the sport, and one of the greatest of this era," Foster told The Ring. "I think this win is going to put me on the pound-for-pound list. There's no way they're going to be able to talk about boxing without speaking about me. So that's where I want to be, and we are fighting hard to get there."
Nullifying the high-volume punching Navarrete is no easy task. But Foster has poured cold water over offensive-oriented, Mexican-style fighters Rey Vargas and Eduardo "Rocky" Hernandez in previous wins. Foster has also shown his depth by beating equally crafty fighters Stephen Fulton and Raymond Ford over his last two outings.
"Nobody's doing what I'm doing," Foster said. "These guys are picking their battles wisely. I'm going from style to style. It doesn't even matter, and I'm taking the biggest challenges. So it's only right to be on the pound-for-pound list after this."
Foster said he's inclined to fight WBA titleholder Anthony Cacace, who has a planned pitting against Nick Ball on December 19.
"I'm trying to go undisputed, and then I'll go up. I can see the path to undisputed. I feel like I could sit around for one or two more," Foster said.
Vasiliy Lomachenko also has plans for Cacace's crown and plans to come out of retirement for his own pursuit of an undisputed title.
"I can see a Lomachenko fight in the future," Foster said. "I think that's a great style matchup. That's a fight that I've always wanted, even when I was coming up. I thought that would be a great technical fight. I'm gonna dominate him, too, if he gets put in front of me. Nothing changes because it's Loma. I guess he thinks coming down to 130 is going to be a little easier or something, but nah."
If Foster, a career-long 130-pounder, decides he's done in the division, a move to lightweight would make all the sense to challenge sitting titleholders Floyd Schofield (WBA), William Zepeda (WBC) and Abdullah Mason (WBO).
But the bigger bouts for Foster would be against Gervonta Davis and Shakur Stevenson, if he gets past Navarrete.
"Tank Davis is another great fight that I would love," Foster said. "I'm tired of mentioning his name, but Shakur [would be the next fight that I would like]. Everybody knows that if I can fight anybody, that's who I'd like to put my hands on. I need to make it known to everybody, I don't really care. I'm not chasing dude or anything like that, but he's a big opp on my hit list and that ain't going to change."
