Tyson Fury suggested his long-awaited “Battle of Britain” with Anthony Joshua has fallen through during an expletive-laden rant Friday on Instagram.
The former heavyweight champions were finally expected to agree a deal to fight late this year after they won tune-up fights in July.
However, nearly a month down the line, there is still no agreement, with the location of the fight said to be a particular sticking point. Joshua’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, contends his fighter’s contract states the fight must happen in England, despite Madison Square Garden emerging as the frontrunner for the site of their showdown November 20 in New York.
But a frustrated Fury (36-2-1, 25 KOs), who has been training since he stopped Mariusz Wach in the seventh round of their Thailand encounter July 24, now says he does not expect Team Joshua to sign at all. Joshua (30-4, 27 KOs) survived two first-round knockdowns and knocked out huge underdog Kristian Prenga (20-2, 20 KOs) in the second round July 25 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
During a session on the cross-trainer Friday afternoon, Fury took to Instagram to announce the news, labeling both Joshua and Hearn cowards during an eight-minute tirade.
“It doesn't look like they’re going to sign the fight, all because Eddie Hearn and [Joshua] want more money,” Fury said. “They’ve already had that much money off of Turki [Alalshikh] in the last few years, Eddie and AJ, they've had boxing deals, they've had darts deals, they’ve had snooker deals. They’ve had everything.
“And yet they’ve got the audacity and cheek of flea-bitten rats to ask for more money from Old Turki. That’s hideous. I’ll tell you what, it’s disgusting. Money-thirsty pieces of s***. It is what it is. It’s the same old cliche a decade later. Keep running you little cowards. All this talk of wanting the fight in England, it’s only to get more money to go to America.”
On Hearn, Fury added, “Look at the money he’s had off Turki. And yet he still has to do darts deals and snooker deals off the back of my fight. That’s got f*** all to do with you, Eddie. You’re on a small percentage of Joshua’s wages. You’re not the promoter, you’re not f*** all. You’re just a bag carrier like you’ve always been. End of. I’ve never seen more cowardly ass men in all my life.”
Fury also questioned Joshua’s decision this week to upload a video of him taking part in a golf cart race with such a huge fight in the balance.
“You’ve got one sausage up and down on a holiday, trying to jump off golf buggies,” Fury said. “Has he not learned his lesson? He could break his arm, break his leg, fight’s off. You don’t even give a f*** about the fight. You’re pieces of s***. Cowards. I’ve bent over backwards to make this fight happen. First of all, it was in England, then it was in Ireland, then it was in America. I said, ‘I’ll go anywhere.’ I’m not interested where the fight is. I just want to fight. I’m match fit. I’ve had two fights this year. I’m ready to rock and roll, baby.
“Will you go to England? Yes. Will you go to America? Yes. Will you go to Japan? Yes. Will you go to the moon? Yes. I will. Because I want to fight. When one man’s willing to fight, he gets s*** done. When another one doesn’t, they always make excuses. Excuses, as always.”
Fury also invited Dana White, the face of Zuffa Boxing, to be part of his team for any fight with Joshua. Hearn and White have been involved in a long-running feud, with both men suggesting the other has nothing to do with the fight.
“As for all these promoters saying ‘Dana White’s nothing to do with it. Dana White, why should he be involved?,’ ” Fury said. “If Dana White wants to be involved, he can come on my side, he can be a part of my team. Get in, Dana. You want to make the fight? You come on my side. Be an advisor. Be a trainer. Be a manager. Be whatever the f*** you want. All these w*****s saying he should do it, he should do it. Welcome to you all.
“All the promoters in the world that want to be involved, come to me, join my team. I don’t care. It does not matter who’s involved – Bob Arum, Don King, Frank Warren, Eddie Hearn, Dana White, TKO, Nick Khan, Turki Alalshikh. Whoever's involved, great, the more the merrier. Let’s get it on.”
