Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk met for a face-to-face conversation moderated by DAZN commentator Todd Grisham, and the heavyweight titans didn’t hold back with how they see their sequel unfolding on December 21 at the Kingdom Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
On May 18, it was Usyk (22-0, 14 KOs) who was victorious, mounting a second-half rally by dropping Fury (34-1-1, 24 KOs) in the ninth round en route to a split decision win to capture the undisputed heavyweight crown.
Usyk, dressed like a “hitman” with a suit, tie, black gloves, briefcase, and a freshly shaved head and face, immediately got the attention of “The Gypsy King” during their promotional sitdown.
“He's come for the job. He's come to kill me. He looks like a sexy beast. The shaved head suits him. He looks sexy,” said Fury.
“There is no animosity. I don't hate Usyk. He's a good, God-fearing Christian. He's a family man. Why would I hate him? He's made me millions of dollars. I love him. Do you know what I mean? It was a great fight for the fans to watch. We both did great things. It was a great fight, and that's why we get to do it again on December 21.
“It was a close fight. Fair play to him. We don't make excuses. The man beat me on the night. Fair play. I believe I won the fight. That's my opinion. Everybody had an opinion.
“You had your little chance to knock me out, didn't you? But you couldn't do it, bitch, could you? You hit me with 10 clean shots in a row on the chin but you couldn't do it. You couldn't put me down with Bambi's legs … You're fucked in the rematch. You know what's coming for you. I'm going to fuck you up, bitch.”
Usyk was more poised and calculated with his response.
“Tyson knows what I do. I know what Tyson does. He's a big man. I'm a small man. But it's going to be a different fight,” said Usyk. “My first fight is in the past. My hand was raised. Thank you, God. My focus is now on the present and on December 21. Don't be afraid. I will not leave you alone, again.”
While Usyk is expecting a different kind of encounter in the rematch, Fury insists that a similar script will follow from their first fight.
“Am I going to go and change everything in my camp? Hell no,” said Fury. “It was not a one-sided beatdown. It was a close fight. It could have gone either way.
“I chose to fight backward, yeah, because I'm a slick counterpunching boxer … I want to box like I did before.
“I don't make any excuses. It was a fantastic training camp. I never once said I had problems in camp because I didn't. I did nothing wrong. I did everything good. So did he. He got a split decision by a cat's whisker. He beat me fair and square. Give the man his props. He won the fight. There is no more to say.”
