BROOKLYN, New York -- There were contrasting wins for veteran super middleweight Gabriel Rosado and unbeaten Polish heavyweight Damian Knyba on the undercard preceding former two-weight world champion Danny Garcia's final farewell fight at Barclays Cen...
NEW YORK — Since a nearly two-and-a-half-year retirement, Gabriel Rosado officially made it two wins in a row against Vaughn Alexander at Barclays Center as all three judges handed in lopsided scorecards of 79-73, 79-73 and 80-72 in a super middleweight bout.
Alexander (19-17-2, 16 KOs) shared similarities with Rosado (28-17-1, 16 KOs). Both have double-digit losses and are identical in age. However, that’s where it ended.
Rosado had little to no trouble dealing with his fellow journeymen. It was the accuracy, jab and punch placement that was the major difference. Alexander’s unwillingness to engage and let his hands go compounded his problems.
Damian Knyba KOs Joey Dawejko
Polish heavyweight Damian Knyba (17-0, 11 KOs) scored his fourth straight stoppage with a brutal seventh-round finish of Joey Dawejko, who tried hard but couldn't stop the bleeding.
Dawejko (28-14-4, 16 KOs) suffered his third straight defeat despite doing his utmost to make their heavyweight clash a competitive one. The 35-year-old kept his hands up high and marched straight ahead, but tactically left outmatched by Knyba's absurd 16-inch reach advantage which made it practically impossible to have success on the inside.
From the perimeter, the Philadelphia native was a sitting duck. He showed a strong chin, but Knyba kept him at bay and at no point did the 6ft 7in giant feel threatened before going for the kill. He poured on the pressure in round seven, flooring the journeyman and forcing his corner to throw in the towel.
