George Kambosos is one helluva talker. Even if he loses in the ring, he often wins the press conference. But, despite his witty comebacks and clever one-liners, the Aussie has been relatively quiet lately.

Jake Wyllie, his upcoming opponent, stepped in on extremely late notice when Daud Yordan fell ill. For whatever reason, Kambosos’ flamethrower-like attitude has been much more reserved.

At the age of 24 with a long career ahead of him, Wyllie (16-1, 15 KOs) is taking a significant step up in class, something Kambosos respects. What ticks him off, however, is the narrative surrounding his upcoming showdown in Sydney Australia on Saturday night. Kambosos might be a sizable favorite, according to the bookies, but some smell an upset.

The ridicule he’s been enduring isn't something he’ll let slide. But while he can’t punch any of his critics in the face, he plans on doing that, and much more, to Wyllie.

“I’m ready to make a statement out of him,” said Kambosos immediately after the weigh-ins. “I respect the kid, I don’t want to disrespect him but for all of you disrespecting me, I’m a make a f------ statement out of him.”

Once upon a time, Kambosos (21-3, 10 KOs) was arguably the hottest name in all of boxing but thanks to his recent form, his stature has lost a ton of its credibility. In four fights against Devin Haney, Vasiliy Lomachenko, and Maxi Hughes, he barely won rounds. Wyllie though, is presumably several levels below that bunch.

The 24-year-old isn't ranked highly in any of the four sanctioning bodies and hasn’t fought for a world title. Still, that hasn't stopped him from strutting around like the most confident man on the planet.

Confidence, from Kambosos' point of view, is exactly what he’ll need but once the opening bell rings, he’ll realize he’s in over his head.

“I’m a put it on you.”
