Gervonta Davis has been hard to read in recent weeks.

During the press tour earlier this month for his March 1 fight against Lamont Roach Jr., Tank surprised the boxing public stating that he’d be retiring in 2025.

The development came after the WBA lightweight champion Davis requested that the originally announced date of December 14 in Houston be moved. Eventually, Premier Boxing Champions settled on the March date at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Davis (30-0, 28 KOs), ranked No. 1 by The Ring, is now singing another serious tune indicating that he won’t be fighting as originally planned.

“This fight is fuckin’ cancel[ed],” Davis said on social media.

Roach (25-1-1, 10 KOs), The Ring No. 4 junior lightweight contender, appears unbothered by the unpredictable Davis.

“The fuck ya keep asking me for,” Roach said on an Instagram story. “He said that shit not me. I’m locked in, ain’t shit changed.”

PBC has not released a statement indicating that the Prime Video pay-per-view event has been canceled.

Davis fought only once in 2024, an eighth-round knockout win against Frank Martin in June, his first fight since knocking out Ryan Garcia in April 2023. After the Martin fight, the Baltimore-born and bred Davis became a father again by welcoming his son to the world.

Roach beat Feargal McCrory in June for the WBA 130-pound title and was given special permission by the sanctioning body to fight Davis at 135 pounds.
