Gervonta Davis is expected to be removed from his November 14 Netflix exhibition with Jake Paul. The event will be shifted to December as a new opponent is sought, sources told The Ring.
Gervonta Davis is expected to be removed from his November 14 Netflix exhibition with Jake Paul , sources told The Ring on Monday.
The event shifted to December as a new opponent is sought. December 12 and 19 are among the Friday evenings being explored for Paul’s next event, sources said. It was set to take place at Kaseya Center in Miami, but it was unclear at the time this story was posted if the location will change.
Andre Ward was approached by Paul’s MVP Promotions over the weekend regarding the former super middleweight and light heavyweight champion’s availability, sources said. The Hall of Famer hasn’t boxed since his stoppage win over Sergey Kovalev in a 2017 rematch. Ward will turn 42 in February.
Nate Diaz, whom Paul defeated via decision in August 2023, is also being explored, as is Francis Ngannou, the former UFC heavyweight champion who boxed Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua.
Ngannou dropped Fury and lost by split decision in October 2023. Joshua knocked him out in the second round of their March 2024 bout.
Ryan Garcia and Terence Crawford were also approached, sources confirmed.
MVP released a statement Saturday that it’s investigating the alleged incident involving Davis connected to a lawsuit filed Thursday in Miami.
“We unequivocally condemn any form of violence and are committed to handling this matter with diligence and respect for all involved,” the statement read. “We will make a determination on next steps once we have completed our review and consulted with the appropriate parties.”
The Ring reported Saturday that Garcia is closing in on a deal to challenge WBC welterweight titleholder Mario Barrios in the first quarter of 2026.
Courtney Rossel, Davis’ ex-girlfriend, accused him of aggravated battery, false imprisonment, kidnapping and intentional infliction of emotional distress, per the lawsuit. In the complaint, Rossel alleged Davis took her against her will Tuesday night out of Tootsie’s Cabaret, a Miami gentlemen’s club where she was employed as a VIP cocktail server.
Davis, 30, hasn’t competed since a controversial draw with Lamont Roach in March. A planned August rematch was scrapped as Davis faced other legal issues.
Sports Illustrated’s Chris Mannix first reported that Paul’s next fight could shift to December, and that Garcia and Crawford were approached as possible replacements.
