Legal problems continue to compound for Gervonta Davis.
Baltimore Circuit Judge Althea M. Handy issued an arrest warrant Monday for Davis on the grounds that he violated probation, less than one week after Davis was arrested in Miami for unrelated allegations of domestic violence.
Davis, a 31-year-old native of Baltimore, allegedly violated his probation for a November 2020 hit-and-run accident that injured four people in Baltimore, including a pregnant woman.
Davis attorney Hunter Pruette has asked Handy “to recall the arrest warrant and issue a summons to appear in court and order GPS monitoring,” according to the Baltimore Banner.
“Mr. Davis has appeared as directed, posted bond, complied with all conditions, remained within Florida, and promptly notified supervision of his arrest,” Pruette wrote in court documents, per the Baltimore Banner.
“Detaining him in Maryland would frustrate, not facilitate, compliance by impairing his ability to defend the Florida case and creating substantial logistical barriers to court appearances.”
Davis was arrested on January 28 in Miami by the Miami Gardens Police Department and the U.S. Marshals Service Fugitive Task Force after an arrest warrant for the alleged domestic violence was issued on January 14.
On October 30, Davis' ex-girlfriend Courtney Rossel filed a civil lawsuit in Miami-Dade County, accusing Davis of aggravated battery, false imprisonment, kidnapping, and intentional infliction of emotional distress. Rossel said the incident occured on October 27 at Tootsie’s Cabaret, a Miami gentlemen’s club where she was employed as a VIP cocktail server.
Rossel alleged that Davis grabbed her by her head and throat, took her against her will out of the nightclub, and dragged her out of the back exit and into a nearby parking garage, where he assaulted her.
After the arrest last week, Davis posted an $8,500 bond and was ordered not to have any contact with Rossel.
As for the 2020 hit-and-run incident – one of several run-ins with the law that Davis has had in recent years – he received 90 days of house arrest, three years of probation and 200 hours of community service. Davis later spent nearly six weeks in jail in 2023 for violating the terms of his home detention.
Davis (30-0-1, 28 KOs), the WBA lightweight champion, last fought to a majority draw with Lamont Roach Jr. in March.
Davis was supposed to take on Jake Paul in December but was pulled from the contest once Rossel's allegations surfaced.
The WBA is expected to rule soon on Davis' status as a titleholder.
