Hamzah Sheeraz doesn’t like making excuses but if you talked to him about his recent split draw against Carlos Adames, his entire demeanor changes.
Sheeraz, 26, didn’t feel like himself on the night. Although he did give most of the credit to Adames, he has made reference to an arduous weight cut.
At 6’3,” the Londoner is big for the weight. But while that sort of advantage has worked in his favor in the past, he’s willing to give it up.
Immediately after a decision was reached, Sheeraz (21-0-1, 17 KOs) took some time away before announcing his next move. The middleweight division is a place near and dear to his heart but his body needed a reprieve. So, officially, he’ll head up to the super middleweight landscape on July 12 to take on Edgar Berlanga at the Louis Armstrong Stadium in Queens, New York.
Outside of his loss to Canelo Alvarez, Berlanga has looked unbeatable. Still, even with the highly-ranked contender being extremely dangerous, Sheeraz has a feeling that he’ll walk right over him.
“I’m gonna do what has to be done,” Sheeraz told OOOSCH TV. “It should be a fairly simple and fairly easy night hopefully.”
It’s no secret that Berlanga wants to knock Sheeraz’s head off. Come fight night, he’ll have a few chances if things go the way.
Going into a matchup against someone who hits as hard as Berlanga could produce a few sleepless nights. So far, however, Sheeraz is feeling just fine.
His secret? It isn’t complicated. All it comes down to is hard work and execution. Luck could be involved as well, but as long as the first two bullet points are met, he believes he’ll be just fine.
“Just by doing what I been doing in the gym,” Sheeraz explained by asking how he’ll win. “It’s as simple as that.”
