Elif Nur Turhan's quick turnaround resulted in a lackluster first defense of her IBF world lightweight title on January 31.
As far as her promoter is concerned, that disappointing display could play into her hands on the negotiating table when assessing options for the 30-year-old's next appearance.
Turhan (13-0, 8 KOs) edged a 10-round split decision (96-94, 93-97, 98-92) against Australia's Taylah Gentzen on the Josh Kelly-Bakhram Murtazaliev undercard on Jan. 31, just eight weeks after stunning plenty to produce a fifth-round finish of long-reigning beltholder and Olympic champion Beatriz Ferreira in Monte-Carlo, Monaco.
Ferreira (8-1, 2 KOs) was long viewed as the divisional no. 1 and Matchroom had leverage at 135 pounds, a dynamic that has changed considerably over the past year even after inking a multi-fight deal with her Turkish successor.
WBC champion Caroline Dubois (12-0-1, 5 KOs) faces WBO beltholder Terri Harper (16-2-2, 6 KOs) in a unification with the Ring Magazine title also on the line this Sunday, topping the bill as MVPW-01 gets underway at London's Olympia and Hearn has doubled down on an eagerness to see the victor face his charge later this year.
Assessing the matchup as a neutral, Hearn told The Ring: "Caroline is a very good fighter and it's a tough fight for Terri, but she's got a lot more experience and has already achieved a huge amount in the sport. Those guys at MVP, Nakisa [Bidarian] has my number, the winner can fight Elif whenever they want.
"She didn't look great in her last one but was unwell, maybe that [showing] will make them want to fight her more. I doubt it, but we're ready to make it happen."
Dubois told The Ring's Dec Taylor in January that she was open to a Turhan matchup, having suggested Ferreira was guilty of overlooking the power-punching Turk during their world title fight. She has also since discussed being unimpressed having watched her spar Ring and unified junior featherweight champion Ellie Scotney, who seeks undisputed status against WBA beltholder Mayelli Flores (13-1-1, 4 KOs) in the evening's co-main event.
