Willy Hutchinson was hoping to get back to winning ways this weekend in an intriguing fight with Zach Parker on the Derek Chisora-Otto Wallin undercard.
His return to action, however, has now been put on ice.
Hutchinson (18-2, 13 KOs) hasn't been in the ring since a split decision loss to Joshua Buatsi (19-0, 13 KOs) on the Anthony Joshua-Daniel Dubois bill last September.
His fight with Parker (25-1, 18 KOs) was one of the highlights of this weekend's card at the Co-Op Live Arena in Manchester, live on TNT Sports in the UK.
But the Scotsman has had to pull out of the contest with a shoulder injury.
Queensberry Promotions confirmed the news in a statement on X: "Unfortunately, Willy Hutchinson suffered an injury during sparring, which resulted in a dislocation and tear to his left shoulder, meaning he has had to withdraw from his upcoming bout with Zach Parker.
"Willy will now undergo an MRI scan this week to determine the extent of the injury, and we wish him all the best in his recovery.
"Queensberry will work with Zach and his team to find an opponent to allow him to stay on this Saturday’s card at the Co-Op Live on 8th February."
Hutchinson was touted as a promising Light Heavyweight prospect in the UK several years ago before a sobering stoppage loss at the hands of Lennox Clarke (20-2-1, 8 KOs) halted his momentum.
The 26-year-old got his career back on track with a string of comeback wins on small-hall shows at venues like York Hall and the Telford International Centre.
His crowning return victory came against Craig Richards last summer in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on the Deontay Wilder-Zhiel Zhang undercard.
Hutchinson boxed to orders that night and picked up a comfortable unanimous decision victory over Richards, who is next in action on March 1st in Belfast against Padraig McRory.
But it may be a while before Hutchinson steps in between the ropes again, with recovery from potential surgery on a shoulder dislocation likely to take around four to six months.
