In a sit-down interview with The Ring’s Mike Coppinger, Garcia said he’d be upset if he didn't get an early stoppage. Garcia (25-2, 20 KOs) makes the first defense of his WBC welterweight title against Benn (25-1, 14 KOs) on September 12 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

The card will be live globally on Paramount+ in the United States and on DAZN across the UK and Ireland.

“I would be disappointed in myself if it goes the distance,” Garcia said. “If I don't get him out of there five and below, I'm gonna still finish the job and play around with him and beat the s*** out of him, but it's not gonna feel as good as me really knocking him out. I'm gonna be vigorously disappointed in myself if I don't get him out. … He's not that good.”

Garcia, The Ring’s No. 5 welterweight, beat Mario Barrios by unanimous decision to win the 147-pound title on February 21. The Victorville, California, native dropped Barrios with an overhand right inside the first 30 seconds of the fight before coasting to his first win since December 2023, when he beat 140-pound contender Oscar Duarte by eighth-round KO.

Garcia, 27, had his majority decision two years ago against Devin Haney, now the WBO welterweight champ, overturned to a no-contest because he tested positive for ostarine, a banned substance.

Benn, 29, has to cut down to 147 for the first time since his second-round stoppage of Chris Van Heerden in April 2022. The Englishman last fought at a 150-pound catchweight when he beat two-time 140-pound titleholder Regis Prograis by unanimous decision in a 10-round fight on April 11.

Benn hasn’t weighed less than 150 pounds in his four fights between 2023-25. He was 149.6 against Prograis.

The build-up to their clash on Mexican Independence Day weekend has been contentious, and they had to be kept apart on multiple occasions during their press conference at Fanatics Fest in New York on July 18. Ultimately, Garcia believes he’s superior to Benn.

“There's nothing that I see in any of those fights that makes me believe that he's at this level,” Garcia said. “I think that there's gonna be a clear distinction on the difference in experience, talent and levels of boxing in the ring. He's gonna be getting hit with punches he usually doesn't get hit with. He's gonna see a lot of the attempts he does is not gonna work.

“All he has is conditioning, and even when he has conditioning, he starts throwing sloppily in the later rounds. It's gonna be real ugly for you. You're gonna hope it ends in five and below, like I'm predicting. You're gonna hope, because if it goes any longer and you get tired like you did [against] Regis, you start getting sloppy. I’m not Regis, brother. I'm gonna spank you.”
