All signs point to the 19-year-old from Yorkshire having a promising career, and Atang ensured his path remains a promising one by stopping Glen Williams on Saturday in just two rounds during his United States debut.

After the fight, Atang (8-0, 7 KOs) promoter, Eddie Hearn, sung his pupil's praises.

"A lot of people are saying he's the new Anthony Joshua coming from the UK," Hearn said. "Leo's got all the attributes, the fundamentals to go on and be world heavyweight champion. Long way to go, but we'll make sure it's done properly. I know he'll work very hard to get to where he needs to be.

"He looks a million dollars. He's carved out of stone. This is a road toward the heavyweight championship. There's a lot of building to be done. At 19, you're nowhere near the man, the size that you will be as you progress into your early-or-mid 20s.

"He's 235 pounds at the moment. He's still got a lot of growing to do. We want to see him up around that 250 mark, but he's got all the fundamentals. He's very fast, has good footwork, and good punch selection. He's a very nice young man. He's got a smile that lights up the room. He looks amazing. He's a great fighter. I think he's going to be a huge star. And more importantly, I think he will become a champion. But we've got a four-or-five year project with him. And that will include fighting in America, definitely once a year.

"Nothing can stop him because we know he puts the work in; he's got a great mind. When you have ability, hard work, and consistency, the only way we're going is straight to the top."

Atang, a 2024 under-19 world champion, made his pro debut in July of last year. The 6-foot-6 teenager has fought just 16 rounds across eight fights but has remained immensely active. Hearn said Atang should soon be graduating to scheduled eight-rounders against stiffer competition, all while maintaining the high level of activity.

Atang said he was satisfied with his stateside debut after stopping the outmatched Williams with a flurry of unanswered shots.

"We punched him up, basically, and that's what we wanted to do. It was a proper stoppage, and I hope everyone's impressed," Atang said.

"I think I just set off for an empty head. I didn't want to force it. I hit him with a few big shots early, which normally would have taken people out, and he stood there on face. So I knew I had to save myself, just in case we went the full distance. All of you American [fighters], you're tough.

"[My US debut] was unreal. It was everything I wanted from it."
