So far, nobody has been able to shine a light of any of Itauma’s weaknesses on fight night. The 21-year-old British contender from Kent has therefore been doing the vast majority of his learning in the gym.

No fighter is completely infallible and there will be mistakes and vulnerabilities that Itauma and his training team of Ben Davison and Lee Wylie spend hours correcting and covering up.

During an interview with comedian Rob Beckett as part of a “Teeing Off” golf segment on DAZN, however, Itauma (14-0, 12 KOs) said that it’s his desire to be perfect that causes him the most difficulties.

“No, that is actually one of my problems to be honest,” Itauma said. “Ben and Lee, they keep telling me that that my problem is that I show too much frustration. I might miss an opportunity or something and it’s like I’m quick to beat myself up. But I’m working on it, man. I’m working on it. It’s just because I’m a perfectionist.”

Things are unlikely to go perfectly when he fights Hrgovic (20-1, 15 KOs) in a 12-round main event DAZN will stream on pay-per-view and to subscribers of DAZN’s Ultimate plan.

The experienced 34-year-old Croatian is the most accomplished fighter that Itauma has faced. Hrgovic has also displayed the toughness to suggest that he may be able to navigate his way through an early storm.

Itauma is a 9-1 favorite to win the fight, according to Draft Kings. The Ring’s No. 6 heavyweight contender still might have to answer some serious questions and think on his feet to do so against the fifth-ranked Hrgovic.

The 6-foot-4, 235-pound Itauma is alert to the threat. The powerful southpaw insists that he has remained fully focused on dealing with Hrgovic and hasn’t allowed the prospect of becoming the second-youngest heavyweight world titleholder to infiltrate his thinking.

“I wouldn’t say I really put too much importance on that because if the title wasn’t there, I would still be taking it as serious,” Itauma said. “It’s now just that the title is there on the line, I’m still taking it as serious as before.”
