Jake Paul didn't do nearly as bad as people believe he did.
The prevailing thought surrounding his sixth-round stoppage defeat to Anthony Joshua (29-4, 26 KOs) last weekend, was that Paul (12-2, 7 KOs) was dominated.
Yet, the former YouTuber turned fringe cruiserweight contender doesn't agree. In his opinion, not only did he perform well in a losing effort, but also banked a few rounds.
"I won two rounds, and he won two, and then I got dropped," Paul told his brother, Logan Paul, on Impaulsive during a recent interview. "I was doing good, just think the mental pressure of the big guy is different. I was feeling his power a lot more."
Paul's view was incredibly off, as far as the judges were concerned. Ringside trio David Sutherland, Michael Tate and Steve Weisfeld didn't give the 28-year-old a single round.
Overall, it was a painful night for the five-year pro. He was floored three times and a straight right hand finished him, a brutal shot which saw him suffer a broken jaw in two places.
Still, even as Paul endures a lengthy recovery process, he doesn't have any regrets. Besides his bank account growing larger, simply being in the ring with a Olympic champion and two-time unified heavyweight champion was priceless.
"It's a great experience overall to be in there with someone who's that good," Paul continued. "I learned a lot."
