Jake Paul's easy unanimous decision win against Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. last weekend was good enough for him to have the opportunity to challenge for a world title down the line.
On Monday, the WBA updated its rankings and listed Paul as the No. 14-ranked cruiserweight in the world.
The development means that Paul (12-1, 7 KOs) is now eligible to face WBA and WBO cruiserweight champion Gilberto "Zurdo" Ramirez (48-1, 30 KOs).
Heading into the Chavez fight, Paul and Nakisa Bidarian, head of MVP Promotions, pressed the sanctioning bodies to rank the YouTuber-turned-boxer if he were to beat Chavez.
The polarizing Paul has been fighting professionally since 2020 but his resume primarily features wins against faded MMA fighters as well as a 58-year-old Mike Tyson and the 39-year-old Chavez, who just last year was in rehab and hadn't scored a meaningful win since 2012.
Paul has also knocked out lightly regarded pros Ryan Bourland and Andre August, both in one round, and the lone loss of his career came against the novice Tommy Fury in February 2023.
Ramirez fought on Paul's undercard Saturday and scored a workmanlike unanimous decision win against Yuniel Dorticos. Ramirez and Paul faced off against one another during their post-fight press conference.
On the other hand, Ramirez said he's open to a title unification fight against The Ring and IBF champion Jai Opetaia, and negotiations are set to begin in the coming weeks, according to Opetaia's team.
"There's a long line of people waiting [to fight me]," Paul said after beating Chavez. "Take a [expletive] ticket. I don't care. I have time. I'm 28 years old. I'll fight anyone, any time, any place."
