Daisuke Sugita, a Japanese boxer and police offer, was found dead with a gunshot wound to his head Saturday while in uniform at the police station he worked at, according to Nikkan Sports.
The Machida Police Station of the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department, where Sugita worked, announced his death. The incident is being investigated as a suicide. Sugita was 37.
Sugita (11-6, 4 KOs) last fought in March and scored an eight-round majority decision win against Ren Kakimoto.
Sugita turned pro in 2018 after an amateur career that resulted in a reported record of 110 wins and 31 losses.
