Like Crawford, the ambidextrous Ennis often switches between orthodox and southpaw stances during fights and troubles opponents with his effectiveness.
Jaron Ennis wanted his own opportunity to dethrone Terence Crawford. The former unified welterweight champion didn’t hesitate, however, when Canelo Alvarez enlisted him to help the Mexican superstar prepare for his fast-approaching showdown with Crawford.
Ennis arrived in the Lake Tahoe area Friday to start sparring with Alvarez as the undisputed super middleweight champion gets ready to face Crawford three weeks from Saturday.
Ennis announced his arrival in Alvarez’s training camp by posting a photo of them in the ring together through his X account Saturday afternoon.
Ennis is one of the few fighters in boxing who can give Alvarez similar looks he expects to see from the multi-faceted Crawford. Like Crawford, the ambidextrous Ennis often switches between orthodox and southpaw stances during fights and troubles opponents with his effectiveness.
Crawford (41-0, 31 KOs), of Omaha, Nebraska, has moved up two weight classes to challenge Alvarez (63-2-2, 39 KOs) for the Guadalajara native’s Ring, IBF, WBA, WBC and WBO 168-pound championships Sept. 13 at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas. Netflix will stream the highly anticipated bout between four-division champions.
Ennis (34-0, 30 KOs, 1 NC) couldn’t ask for better sparring, either, as he prepares for his junior middleweight debut in his hometown of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
The former Ring/IBF/WBA welterweight champion is scheduled to square off against Angola’s Uisma Lima (14-1, 10 KOs) on Oct. 11 in Ennis’ first fight since he left the 147-pound division two months ago. DAZN will stream Ennis-Lima — a 12-round WBA 154-pound elimination match — as a main event from Wells Fargo Center.
