Jaron Ennis hasn’t even finished his victory lap and Brian Norman Jr. is already being mentioned to him.
This past Saturday night, Ennis (34-0, 30 KOs) proved that even Eimantas Stanionis isn’t good enough to compete with him. As the Philly star continued his violent beating, the crowd at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, stood on their feet and roared. And, once their man officially grabbed the win via corner stoppage in the sixth, they got even louder.
Stanionis was a worthy fighter, something that Ennis acknowledged. However, the 27-year-old was unable to finish paying him his respect before the good ole “What’s next?” question was thrown his way.
Norman, 24, holds the welterweight division’s WBO strap. Of course, Ennis is on a belt-collecting spree and figures that his WBO title would pair nicely with his Ring, IBF, and WBA belts.
Ultimately, some are convinced that while Ennis is an unbelievable talent, Norman could be the one to beat him. Ennis though, held his sides as he couldn't stop himself from laughing.
“Brian Norman is not good,” said Ennis to a group of reporters following his win. “He’s not good.”
Two weeks prior to the demolition job Ennis pulled off, Norman (27-0, 21 KOs) sent Derrieck Cuevas to the emergency room via third-round stoppage.
There aren’t many fighters in the welterweight division that mention Ennis’ name. Norman though, has continually called him out. The freshly crowned champion isn’t downplaying Ennis’ talent but he believes he can compete with him on every level.
A few words come to Ennis’ mind when Norman speaks. Liar, clout chaser, and attention seeker are just a few. The way he sees it, Norman doesn’t want anything to do with him. They simply want to keep themselves relevant.
“They don’t do nothing but talk,” continued Ennis. “They trying to build they name up off me.”
