LOS ANGELES – Jesus Ramos Jr. couldn’t get the meaningful matchups he was seeking at 154 pounds, so he’s moving on to the middleweight division to face Shane Mosley Jr. on October 25 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
The pitting will come with a prize on the line, as the interim 160-pound WBC title is up for grabs. The winner will be well-positioned to face the full WBC titleholder, Carlos Adames.
“I feel like I can bring new energy to the middleweight division and be the face of the division. It all starts on October 25,” Ramos said during a recent press conference. “Being on big cards and having experienced all of that gives me a different confidence. I’m excited to showcase my talent on a big card with so much talent on it.”
Ramos (23-1, 19 KOs), ranked No. 8 by The Ring at 154 pounds, has been a mainstay on PBC pay-per-view shows in recent years, headlined by the likes of Canelo Alvarez, David Benavidez, and Gervonta Davis, but the showcases didn’t add up to higher-profiled fights.
The one time Ramos did step up, however, he suffered the lone loss of his career against Erickson Lubin in September 2023. He has since strung three consecutive wins by stoppage against Johan Gonzalez, Jeison Rosario, and most recently in March, against Guido Emmanuel Schramm.
“Middleweight will be a good weight class for me. I think the extra six pounds will be to my benefit. The power has translated so far and I think it’ll be more of the same on October 25,” said Ramos.
“I’ve had an active year and I’m excited to get another one in before the year ends. Mosley’s gonna have to show up to fight night, and I’ll handle the rest.
“He can be the perfect fighter if you allow him to be. He’s very technical, but we’re gonna make him uncomfortable and try to get him out of there.”
Once middling in mediocrity, the second-generation fighter Mosley (22-4, 12 KOs) has enjoyed a resurgence in recent years. After losing a decision to Jason Quigley in 2021, Mosley has four-straight wins, including victories against Gabriel Rosado, and most recently, against Daniel Jacobs in July 2024.
Ramos couldn’t care less about Mosley’s momentum.
“I’m coming to knock Mosley out,” said Ramos. “That’s the mindset. I’m gonna try every round to inflict more damage than the previous round. We’re gonna break him down.”
Ramos-Mosley will be featured on the undercard of a PBC on Prime Video pay-per-view event headlined by Sebastian Fundora and Keith Thurman.
