There’s no shortage of big fights on Jesus Ramos’ mind.
First, he has to handle business against Meiirim Nursultanov on a Premier Boxing Champions card, on a TBD date, live on DAZN. If everything goes according to plan, he hopes it’ll lead to a fight with WBC middleweight champion Carlos Adames.
“If it were up to me, it would be me versus Adames next,” Ramos said at a press conference to announce PBC’s deal with DAZN on Thursday. “I want that fight, and I hope it's next. I can't speak for him, but I hope he wants it. I hope we can make it happen.”
Ramos (24-1, 19 KOs) won the interim WBC middleweight title with a unanimous decision over Shane Mosley Jr. in December. Ramos, 25, has won four straight fights since his lone defeat, a unanimous decision loss to Erickson Lubin in September 2023.
Adames (25-1-1, 18 KOs) is coming off a one-sided unanimous decision victory over Austin “Ammo” Williams on March 21 in Orlando. Adames, 32, is The Ring’s No. 1-ranked middleweight, while Ramos is No. 9.
Further down the line, Ramos hopes to welcome the top junior middleweights like unified champion Jaron Ennis, WBC titleholder Sebastian Fundora and Vergil Ortiz to middleweight. Among those fighters, Ortiz (24-0, 22 KOs) is the one he wants the most.
“I think me versus Vergil Ortiz down the line once he's ready to move up to 160,” Ramos said when asked what his dream fight is at middleweight. “Right now, it's not a lot of big names in the division, so we have to wait, but me versus Vergil Ortiz. I think it's a big fight at 160. Hopefully we can make it in the near future.”
Nursultanov (20-0, 11 KOs) is the WBC’s No. 1-ranked middleweight despite having not fought since November 2023 when he won a unanimous decision over Julio Alamos.
“I'm excited to be back in the ring as a champion now,” Ramos said. “It does bring a new wave of confidence, and we've been improving a lot of things in the gym, my father and I. I'm excited to showcase all of that.”
