At 39 years old, Joe Joyce isn't ready to retire despite an uneven ride in recent years.
Joyce has lost three out of his last four fights. Last time out in July, he looked slow and sluggish against a battle-worn Derek Chisora, suffering a knockdown during a 10-round unanimous decision defeat.
The return of Joyce (16-3, 15 KOs) is imminent for the first quarter of 2025, according to Queensberry Promotions head Frank Warren. Joyce is currently in training camp preparing for his comeback.
“I’m not done yet. I’m still here,” Joyce said during the broadcast of Denzel Bentley’s win over Brad Pauls on December 7. “I’ve got some fights lined up. I’m real excited to get back in the ring and show people what I’m made of, and that I’m still here and I can still push it back into the top levels of the division.”
The bout was entertaining at times, but it was evident the back-to-back knockout beatings Joyce suffered against Zhilei Zhang had taken a serious toll on the 2016 Olympics silver medalist’s body.
Joyce enjoyed the best stage of his career during a breakout beginning in 2020 by knocking out current IBF heavyweight titleholder Daniel Dubois by busting his eye. He followed up the win with KOs against Carlos Takam in 2021, Christian Hammer in 2022, and former titleholder-turned-current Dubois challenger Joseph Parker in 2022.
But after Parker, "Juggernaut" Joyce met his match against Zhang and hasn't been able to steady the ship ever since.
