Joe Joyce has no plans to call it quits.
The 40-year-old Londoner has lost five of his last six fights, including his last three, and has looked like a shell of himself. But the mounting defeats haven't dampened his desire to keep fighting.
"I'm not in a position to retire right now, financially, and I still think I've got more in the tank," Joyce told IFL. "I'd like to finish my career out on my terms and try to get back into the top spot again, and get some good fights before I hang the gloves up.
"If I were managed right, I would be in a better position than I am now. ... I'm promoter-free. I'm open to offers. I need to get back on a winning streak."
Joyce (16-5, 15 KOs) was at the top of the heavyweight food chain as recently as 2022 after a four-fight run that featured stoppage wins against Daniel Dubois, Joseph Parker, Carlos Takam and Christian Hammer.
Then the losses started mounting for the 2016 Olympic silver medalist, twice against Zhilei Zhang by stoppage, decision defeats to Filip Hrgovic and Derek Chisora and a loss last time out against Artem Suslenkov in July when Joyce quit in the middle of the 11th round.
"This is not the end yet," Joyce said. "I want to pick when I retire, when I am financially in a good place, and finish on a high. Right now it's not time for me to retire yet. I'll choose when I want to retire.
"I feel like I am still learning with my new trainer, SugarHill Steward. He's a great coach and teaches me things that I have never done before, and I am excited to get back in and learn some more."
