Fringe junior lightweight contender Jordan White has become a popular hometown fighter.

Some are already labeling him as ‘Son of the DMV.’

White will face Jason Sanchez Saturday night at the Entertainment and Sports Arena in his hometown of Washington, DC. The 10-round bout will stream live on BXNGTV.com (6 p.m. ET/ 3 p.m. PT).

The 26-year-old White (17-1, 12 knockouts) has demonstrated power and aggression in recent fights, having stopped six of his last nine opponents. According to promoter Eric Davis, the way White has scored knockouts and his fan-friendly style have translated into him becoming more well-known in the area and large crowds attending recent fights.

“He’s exciting and every time he fights, crowds keep getting bigger and bigger,” Davis told The Ring Thursday night. “The venue (for Saturday’s card) holds about 4.600. He’s drawing more fans. We had a crowd of 2,000, but now he’s drawing crowds of 2,600-2,800. He’s a hometown guy and everyone wants to come watch him fight.

“If you look at (WBA world titleholder) Lamont Roach’s last fight at the same venue (June 28), there were more people at Jordan’s last fight than at Lamont’s. He is the ‘Son of the DMV.’”

DMV stands for District of Columbia (DC), Maryland, and Virginia.

In his last fight on May 18, White stopped former world title challenger Jonathan Oquendo in the opening round. In his previous fight on November 4, White defeated former prospect Jose Edgardo Garcia by unanimous decision. Both fights took place at the Entertainment and Sports Arena.

White has also fought several of his fights at Maryland Live Casino in nearby Hanover. He has appeared in a handful of ShoBox telecasts, his most recent was a first round knockout win over Eridson Garcia in a clash of unbeaten prospects on August 4 of last year.

Davis, who runs Davis Boxing Promotions, believes a showdown between White and Roach could be huge for the area. Roach resides about 20 miles away in Upper Marlboro, Maryland. Area businesses and companies, including Events DC, have sponsored cards headlined by White, demonstrating their commitment to the sport in the area.

“Jordan is ranked by WBC (No. 10) and the WBA (No. 9),” said Davis. “It’s just a matter of time before he gets that world title shot. A fight against Lamont would be huge for the area.

“Jordan is special. We see the crowds that he attracts. People elevate to him. He’s the hometown favorite. He is the ‘Son of the DMV.’”

Sanchez (16-5, 9 KOs), who resides in Albuquerque, New Mexico, was stopped by Bruce ‘Shu Shu’ Carrington in the second round of his last bout on December 9. In his previous fight on April 22 of last year, Sanchez lost to Zelfa Barrett by unanimous decision.

The 29-year-old has lost four of his last six bouts since losing by decision to then-WBO world featherweight titleholder Oscar Valdez in June 2019. In other action, fringe middleweight contender Brandon Quarles (24-5-1, 11 KOs) of nearby Alexandria will square off against Ghana’s Daniel Aduku (15-5-1, 11 KOs) in a six-round bout.

In a clash of unbeaten junior lightweights, Francois Scarboro, Jr. (7-0, 6 KOs) of nearby Cheverly, Maryland will face Detroit’s Ferris Dixon, Jr. (5-0, 3 KOs) in a six-round bout.

Ervin Fuller III (7-0, 3 KOs) of Fort Washington, Maryland will square off against hard-hitting Robin Ellis of Hempstead, New York in a six-round bout. Ellis (6-5, 5 KOs) has lost his last five bouts, four of them by knockout.
