George Kambosos has a perceived weakness.

Fighting pure boxers.

Unless something goes terribly wrong, the former unified lightweight champ has a candlelit dinner lined up against Richardson Hitchins. The supposed date? June 21st in New York City.

By and large, fans have pointed to the two horrific nights Kambosos had against Devin Haney. During those 24 rounds they shared together, the Aussie native barely won any rounds. But while Kambosos (22-3, 10 KOs) knows he was overmatched, he isn’t concerned when it comes to a potential showdown against Hitchins.

Is the current IBF titlist a terrific boxer? Absolutely. But is he on the same level as Haney? From Kambosos’ point of view, absolutely not.

“He’s nowhere near Haney,” said Kambosos to Fight Hub TV. “I’ve been in there with Haney twice. Haney’s got that different style. He ain’t 1/10 of Devin Haney.”

Hitchins, 27, is getting used to his newly won title thanks to a win over Liam Paro a few months ago. To a certain extent, the former Olympian needs Kambosos. Not only would a matchup with the popular Australian fatten his bank account, but it would also legitimize him.

Hitchins, to his credit, knows it. So, even with his championship status, he’s stated time and time again that he wants Kambosos next, something that will likely happen.

As for how things will play out when they do meet up, Hitchins believes he will box circles around him, similar to what Haney did.

Kambosos, through his smiling pearly whites, has an assumption as to why fans and media pundits are siding with Hitchins. The way he sees it, Haney’s previous outing was forgettable. That and that alone, has everyone forgetting how special of a talent he still is.

“I think people forget now because Haney got beat by Ryan Garcia. It’s two different guys.”
