The WBC have extended the negotiation period for the junior welterweight trilogy clash between champion Katie Taylor and mandatory challenger Chantelle Cameron.
The pair are locked at 1-1 after sharing two unforgettable fights during 2023. Cameron won the first via majority decision to claim the undisputed 140-pound titles at Dublin's 3Arena on May 20.
Then Taylor avenged defeat in their November 25 rematch, when another majority decision went in her favour at the same venue.
Taylor (25-1, 6 KOs) has since successfully defended the belts she won back that night with back-to-back victories against Amanda Serrano, further cementing her place as perhaps the greatest female boxer in history.
But now her next move seems less clear. Her promoter Eddie Hearn recently told The Ring the 39-year-old might retire unless she can get a fight outdoors at Croke Park in Dublin.
Meanwhile, 34-year-old Cameron (21-1, 8 KOs) has been steadily working towards another shot at the belts she lost against Taylor. She became WBC interim champion in her first fight back and has since defended that belt twice.
Most recently she beat Jessica Camara on the Taylor-Serrano III undercard at Madison Square Garden in her first fight since signing with Most Valuable Promotions.
Shortly after that night in New York, the WBC officially ordered Taylor-Cameron III and set a deadline of 21 days for negotiations.
However, on the last day of that period, it is understood that Taylor's team requested an extension and the WBC have agreed to allow another 21 days for negotiations.
Now Cameron has accused Taylor of simply delaying what she believes is the inevitable vacation of the belt given that the two sides have not discussed the potential fight once since the WBC's order.
She wrote on social media: "Today was the day for Katie and her team to come to some kind of agreement with my team, to either fight me or vacate the world title belt which I think was really reasonable considering I've spent the last two years getting back in position to fight for it since losing it in our rematch back in October 2023.
"This is the second extension that's been granted. Hopefully this is the final extension/deadline and the belt is vacated as I don't think Katie and her team want the fight, which is fair enough, but the 140lb division should crack on.
"Zero negotiations had even been attempted so this is just a delay to stop the belt from being vacated, but no attempt at all to defend it against me. Crazy."
