The Dubois family now has two active world champions from the same household.
Caroline Dubois was installed as the WBC lightweight champion on December 11 after undisputed junior welterweight champion Katie Taylor opted to vacate the 135-pound crown at the WBC convention in Hamburg, Germany.
Dubois (10-0, 5 KOs) won the WBC interim lightweight title in August by unanimous decision against Maira Moneo. She’ll get the opportunity to defend her title immediately against Jessica Camara at the Park Community Arena in Sheffield, UK on January 11, the night of her 24th birthday.
Dubois’ brother Daniel Dubois is the IBF heavyweight champion following a fifth-round knockout win against Anthony Joshua in September. He makes the first defense of his title on February 22 against Joseph Parker.
“It is a great honor to be elevated to full WBC world champion and to have WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman present me with the belt,” said Caroline Dubois. “It’s always been my dream to become a world champion, and this is just the start of the journey for me. I look forward to defending my WBC World Title on January 11th in Sheffield.”
“We would like to thank WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman and the board of governors for upgrading Caroline,” said Dubois promoter Ben Shalom, the founder and CEO of BOXXER. “The WBC lightweight title is active again, and in Caroline, the WBC has a champion who can rule for many years to come. We are only just starting to see her true potential. We believe Caroline will become the future face of women’s boxing.”
Taylor had not fought at 135 pounds since 2022. Her last three fights had been at 140 pounds, including her recent conquest of Amanda Serrano in a November rematch. Taylor first won the WBC title in 2019 by beating Delfine Persoon and made seven defenses of the crown.
