As previously reported by The Ring, former unified welterweight world champion Keith “One Time” Thurman will snap a three year layoff when he takes on Australia’s Brock Jarvis at Sydney’s historic Hordern Pavilion on Wednesday, March 12, 2025.
At 36, Keith Thurman is finally ready to resume his career after netting only one fight since his July 2019 split decision loss to Manny Pacquiao.
The former unified welterweight champion Thurman (30-1, 22 KOs) is set to face Australian Brock Jarvis (22-1, 20 KOs) on March 12 at the Hordern Pavilion in Sydney. The bout will be contested at 154 pounds and 10 rounds.
“This is going to be one of the greatest comebacks in 2025,” Thurman said during a press conference on Wednesday. “Time does not take away the ability of champions. I had to do a little Google on who Brock Jarvis was, how he lost against world champion [Liam Paro]. I'm going to warm up my skills and talent, remind people of who Keith Thurman is by beating up some kangaroos. I'm going to fly over there, I'm going to get me this kangaroo [Jarvis] and I'm going to come back to America and I'll get [Australian Tim] Tszyu.”
Thurman was supposed to fight Tszyu and make his junior middleweight debut last March but pulled out of the fight a week before their scheduled contest due to a biceps injury, adding to a long list of ailments that have sidelined Thurman since his heyday.
From 2015 to 2017, Thurman beat the still-in-their-prime likes of Robert Guerrero, Shawn Porter, and Danny Garcia in a four-fight stretch. A rugged majority decision win against Josesito Lopez came before the Pacquiao fight, and Thurman has fought just once since – a 2022 unanimous decision win against Mario Barrios.
“This is a big opportunity for me and I’m going to make the most of it,” said Jarvis. “Originally when I got the call, I thought Keith had retired, so it was news to me. I also thought, what an opportunity for me. I know he hasn’t knocked anyone out for 10 years, he hasn’t fought in three years and pulled out last year with an old man injury. I’ll just be a lot better when he gets here and arrives on Australian soil.”
Jarvis fought one time each in 2024, 2023, and 2022; the lone loss of his career came via a first-round KO to Paro in 2022, who became a junior welterweight titleholder last year.
“I'm about to beat up on an old man who's past it,” Jarvis quipped. “You're declining fast, similar to your hairline.”
The loquacious Thurman immediately clapped back.
“What have you done in boxing Brock?” he asked. “Keith Thurman was, is, and will forever be great.”
