Keyshawn Davis is unbothered by Andy Cruz, who has a 4-0 record against him in the amateurs.
Cruz’s best win against Davis came during his finest hour as an amateur at the 2020 Olympics, as Cruz won gold and forced the American Davis to settle for silver.
Davis, 25, is signed with Top Rank and has progressed nicely as a professional since making his pro debut in 2021. Davis (12-0, 8 KOs) had a standout 2024 campaign knocking out Gustavo Lemos in two rounds during a sold-out homecoming fight in Virginia in November while also knocking out former two-division champion Jose Pedraza and scoring a unanimous decision win against Miguel Madueno.
Cruz, 29, meanwhile, is signed with Matchroom Boxing and didn’t make his pro debut until 2023. He has just four pro fights under his belt, with his most recent win coming against Antonio Moran in August.
With both of the fighters being top 10 lightweights in The Ring rankings, a potential clash has always been a highly desirable one between the two.
“The ball is in their court,” Davis told The Ring. “We're waiting on them. We already sent them a contract. I got on a live video call with Eddie Hearn and told him to set up the fight. I don't know what more ya'll want me to do. I tried to fight him when I was a co-main event fighter. Now I'm a main event fighter. I can fight him now as a main event. If I send him a contract, are they going to sign it? I don't fucking know.
"At the end of the day, I'm going for a world title and the biggest fights out there. He is one of the biggest fights out there that I do want to fucking fight, like, next fight type of shit. But I'm not going to entertain something that they’re not fucking ready yet. He's 4-0. Like what the fuck? You know what I'm saying? He's not ready yet. He doesn't even have a fucking fan base. His entire fan base is built around me.”
As Top Rank finalizes its schedule for the first half of 2025, Davis should be returning in the first quarter, possibly against WBO lightweight champion Denys Berinchyk, The Ring has learned.
Cruz should be fighting on the undercard of the Diego Pacheco vs. Steven Nelson fight on January 25, sources tell The Ring.
