Several undefeated up-and-coming prospects were busted in 2024.
Among them were Ashton Sylve, Jalil Hackett, Marc Castro, Kurt Scoby, Orestes Velazquez, and “Kid Kansas” Alan Garcia.
Garcia suffered a shocking one-shot knockout loss in September in the fifth round of a fight he was cruising through against Ricardo Fernandez, a 15-13 journeyman fighter, who at the time, had only one career KO before landing the career-altering punch.
Garcia (14-1, 11 KOs) will try to pick up the pieces on his promising career on February 1 at the Finney County Fairgrounds in Garden City, Kansas against a yet-to-be-announced opponent, the lightweight revealed on Instagram.
“Back to Kansas for the one time,” said Garcia. “I’m more than ready to get back on track and perform in front of my people again. Thank you Top Rank for allowing me to fight at home again.”
The 21-year-old Garcia is from Ulysses, Kansas but lives in Los Angeles and is trained and managed by Gloria Alvarado.
He turned professional in September 2020 after a decorated amateur career. In March, he signed a long-term promotional contract with Top Rank, but after just three fights, he met his match in Fernandez.
