Five weeks after Paddy Donovan withdrew from their title eliminator through illness, former IBF junior welterweight champion Liam Paro has fallen forwards into an even better opportunity.
Paro (27-1, 16 KOs) will welcome new champion Lewis Crocker (22-0, 11 KOs) to Australia, with No Limit chief George Rose stressing their eagerness to secure a confirmed date and venue in the next week around April time.
During Thursday's press conference celebrating another marquee night down under, Rose reflected on Paro's short-lived title reign at 140 pounds before sharing renewed optimism his luck will change among the welterweight class.
"He's got a huge opportunity to show he's the man in the division and will go onto bigger and better things. We've created huge world title opportunities for Tim Tszyu in the past and look forward to doing the same for Liam. The fact our Australian fans won't have to travel overseas to see history live, it's an easy trip for everyone to be part of."
He cruised past Jonathan Navarro, stopping him after five rounds of their 144-pound catchweight bout last June before holding firm under pressure and winning a gritty 12-round battle with David Papot three months later.
Newly-minted WBO titleholder Devin Haney is widely viewed as the division's best and the three-weight world champion only made his debut at the weight with a 12-round decision win over Brian Norman Jr in November.
He and Keyshawn Davis have both declared their interest in fighting Crocker, among others, though Paro now has the first shot at dethroning him after his promoter pipped Matchroom by $27,000 to win Wednesday's purse bid.
"My dream is to be a household name and the belief means a lot, I'm ready to take the opportunity with both hands," the 29-year-old said after hearing the news.
"I woke up at 6.30am to millions of phone calls, it's a surreal pinch yourself moment but I'm ready to get it. It's truly humbling, I'm grateful for the belief they [the Rose brothers] have in me, it's something I'll cherish forever."
He laughed when it was put to him that just as Donovan did, Crocker might not fancy an away day and pull a sickness close to fight night in the hopes they could reschedule at a later date and neutral venue.
"Crocker is the champion for a reason and has a bit more to lose [than Donovan], I think he'll be here. We didn't slow down much, just got to roll with the punches, we're not in the driving seat and winning gut.
