Lyndon Arthur isn’t the best of friends with the judges that normally sit ringside.
Against Dmitry Bivol in 2023, Arthur (24-2, 16 KOs) won’t walk around like a man who believes he should have won, but with all three judges failing to give him a single round, he finds it difficult to process that. Even more recently, Arthur was confused again.
The 33-year-old fringe contender strolled to the ring against Liam Cameron as a huge favorite but was fairly lucky to get out of there with a split-decision win. Nowadays, Arthur isn’t sure what the judges are looking at. So, with a matchup against Anthony Yarde taking place on Saturday night in Tottenham Stadium, Arthur believes he’ll give the judges the night off.
“I win by stoppage,” said Arthur to iFL TV.
Stopping Yarde, from Arthur’s point of view, would prevent any controversy, but it would also be him returning the favor. Although they're tied at one win apiece, Yarde (26-3, 24 KOs) definitively stopped him in their rematch in 2021.
Losses are a part of the game. Arthur never expected to produce a Floyd Mayweather-esque career but coming up short to Yarde rubs him the wrong way. Admitting that Yarde has real estate in his mind would be taking it overboard but Yarde’s demeanor and presence are starting to get under his skin.
At one point, it didn’t appear as though they would meet up for a third time. Yarde has remained in championship contention while Arthur has fallen in and out of boxing’s abyss. Still, we're here now. And while he’s grateful for the chance to shut his man up for good, he wouldn’t have lost any sleep if a trilogy never took place.
“I wouldn’t have been depressed if it didn’t happen,” continued Arthur. “But I feel like it needed to happen.”
The event, which is headlined by the grudge match between Chris Eubank Jr. and Conor Benn, will be carried by DAZN PPV.
