After spending the best part of 18 months patiently waiting for the chance to get involved in the cruiserweight mix, Jack Massey finally has a fight to sink his teeth into.
On June 6, the former European champion will box former British beltholder Cheavon Clarke (11-2, 8 KOs) at the Bournemouth International Centre.
Their 10-round fight will serve as the chief support preceding Chris Billam Smith-Ryan Rozicki, a cruiserweight clash headlining Zuffa Boxing 07 in the promotion's first official bridgehead into the British boxing market.
Massey's sole action since an October 2024 loss to The Ring cruiserweight champion Jai Opetaia was a frenetic knockout victory over heavy-handed but vulnerable Ivan Garcia in November 2025. The 33-year-old from Derbyshire had to recover from a shock opening round knockdown before stopping the Argentinian in the fourth.
Massey (23-3, 13 KOs) has kept turning up at Joe Gallagher’s Champs Camp gym in Manchester day in, day out but championship-level fighters come into their own when they have a meaningful name and solid date to work towards. The man known as 'One Smack' couldn't have joined the busy Zuffa cruiserweight mix at a better time.
"I keep surprising myself in the gym. I feel bigger, stronger and obviously having spent more time with Joe, better as well," he told The Ring.
"I think being active is just going to see the best of me and being in these fights where people are made to fight, because I think they've got six or seven cruiserweights now. Billam-Smith, Rozicki, me, Clarke, Brandon Glanton and Opetaia."
Massey is looking forward to being kept busy but the calibre of potential opposition has really excited him. His fight with Opetaia may have ended in defeat but didn't dent Massey's ambitions of mixing with the biggest and best names in the 200-pound division.
Massey certainly won't look to tip toe his way to another title shot. The 13-year pro has never been shy about testing himself and is more than willing to face whoever is put in front of him.
"I liked to think when I was with Boxxer that there was a few under the Boxxer umbrella and that we'd all be made to fight but I think, with these guys, it's going to be a no option sort of thing. It's like 'right, you're fighting each other', there's not going to be any ways around it.
"I can't see Dana [White] cherry picking. They do want to make 50-50 fights and that's how they want to sell it."
