For once, Tuesday's workout at Craft Boxing Club in the privileged pocket of Calabasas didn't involve the chaos and commotion that has been customary for the boxer-turned-celebrity.

No mental health issues, PED scandals or lackluster losses to address. No off-the-rail comments to process, nor wild behavior to speak of. No questions around training, or promotional drama with Oscar De La Hoya. 

The 28-year-old Garcia met with the assembled press to prove he's more mature and serious about his business than ever as he enters the most meaningful chapter of his career.

First-time champion "King Ry" is promising to defend his crown in emphatic fashion against Conor Benn on September 12 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The pair will headline a Zuffa Boxing and Ring show on Paramount+ in the US and DAZN across the UK and Ireland.

Hours after Garcia (25-2, 20 KOs) told Benn (25-1, 14 KOs) on national television that he was a "very fancy trash can, borderline bum, and a dead man walking,” he doubled down that his British counterpart doesn't stand a snowball's chance during their duel in the desert.

"This fight will last five rounds or less," Garcia told The Ring and other media. "If it's going past six, then he might leave in a stretcher. I don't want to wish the worst on him, but it's going to be easy work." 

Benn is coming off a ho-hum, 10-round unanimous decision win against long-faded former two-time 140-pound titleholder Regis Prograis in April at a 150-pound catchweight. The Prograis fight followed a two-fight run for Benn against Chris Eubank Jr. in 2025 at 160 pounds, where they traded unanimous decision wins.

Benn will now have to boil down his body to make the welterweight limit for the first time since April 2022.

"He's never fought a young fighter; all of them have been older," Garcia said. "He's going to use the weight as an excuse [when he loses], one million percent. But there is no mercy here, he forced himself into this position. I don't have any sympathy for him."

Garcia then went on to hit the mitts and a body protector with assistant trainer PJ Shirdan. His father and head coach, Henry Garcia, watched along the ropes as his son unleashed a patented left hook and blazing-fast rocket of a right hand. 

"Ryan has power like a heavyweight," Shirdan said.

Garcia quipped that he couldn't care less what the cameras captured – he's still going to crush Benn, who's training over the Santa Monica Mountains nearly 30 miles away. 

"It doesn't matter what he sees," Garcia said. "He can be training right next to me; he's still not going to beat me. He can know my entire gameplan, but he won't be able to stop it. I am conditioned, focused, and all there [mentally]. You can't stop a special athlete."

Oddsmakers are buying what Garcia is selling. DraftKings has Garcia listed as a -375 betting favorite, and Benn as a +275 underdog. 

The yearslong rollercoaster ride appears to have stopped for Garcia, but it remains to be seen if the carnival will stay closed. 

Garcia is conducting a good case while flashing a telegenic smile, however, all while talking his trash to build up the fight and taking shots at all comers, including the recently retired Terence Crawford.

With a win over Benn, Garcia can try to reach Crawford's heights at 147 pounds as he chases unification bouts with WBA beltholder Teofimo Lopez as well as a grudge match against arch-rival Devin Haney, the WBO champion.

The upcoming stretch will undisputedly prove if the tantalizing Garcia can capitalize on his tremendous talent. 

"My resilience and passion for the sport [has evolved]," Garcia said. "Like anything in life, you have to develop and grow. Your character needs to grow. I turned pro at 17, and a lot of attention was on me right away. 

"It was more of a process of learning the ins and outs. What to do and not to do. The distractions that were messing with me. There were a lot of things that played their part, but it all led me to this moment now where I understand what I have to do, and where I have to be."

"I'm just here to keep elevating the sport, evolving with it to be positioned to be headlining these special events.

"They are all trying to come together and tear me down, because they know I am about to take over and be the face of boxing after this fight."
