Misael Rodriguez scored a fourth-round stoppage victory over Austin Deanda on Friday as part of the Zuffa Boxing 1 card at the Meta Apex in Las Vegas.
Misael Rodriguez maintained complete control throughout his middleweight matchup with Austin Deanda on Friday and scored a fourth-round stoppage win as part of the Zuffa Boxing 1 card at Meta Apex in Las Vegas.
Rodriguez (16-0, 8 KOs), a 2016 Olympic bronze medalist from Mexico, outclassed the outmatched Deanda (17-1, 11 KOs) by outlanding him 91-53, according to CompuBox, in the scheduled 10-round middleweight bout.
Rodriguez, 31, coached by reigning Trainer of the Year Robert Garcia, kept comfortably connecting with damaging shots to the head of Deanda, a 22-year-old from Virginia. Rodriguez also landed 27 shots to the body for good measure.
At the end of the fourth round, results showed, and the ringside physician ruled Deanda unfit to continue in the corner due to vision issues, which prompted referee Thomas Taylor to wave off the action.
“I’m excited for what’s to come. I got my medal, and now I want the Zuffa belt,” said Rodriguez. “I enjoy being with Robert. He makes me better. We always have to keep improving. The expectations are high.”
