Navarrete begs for war while Foster plans to silence 'tough guy'

Emanuel Navarrete is confident that he’ll beat O’Shaquie Foster on Saturday night.
However, considering Foster’s style, he isn’t as confident that their fight will be entertaining.
“What I don’t want is an entire night where we’re just jabbing each other and seeing who can jab more,” Navarrete said during Thursday’s press conference. “I don’t think the people should see that fight. I think they want to see a good fight, they want to see a war. They want an attractive fight, a tough fight, maybe even a bloody fight.”
In the main event on DAZN at Frost Bank Center in San Antonio,, Navarrete will attempt to defend his IBF and WBO 130-pound titles, while also attempting to bring home Foster’s WBC strap and the vacant Ring title.
Foster, The Ring’s No. 2 junior lightweight, has never been known as an aggressor. Instead, he often outboxes his opponent from the outside. He used that same tactic to beat Raymond Ford by majority decision on May 30 in Houston.
Navarrete, The Ring’s No. 1 junior lightweight, goes about his business differently. His nonstop pressure and punch output helped him stop former champion Eduardo Nunez in the 11th round on February 28.
In that bout, Nunez gave Navarrete exactly what he was looking for. And while he knows Foster will do his best to keep their fight on the outside, he’s hoping that he stands in the middle of the ring and goes to war.
“I will come in here at 100 percent with the desire to defend those titles,” Navarrete said. “It cost me a lot. Those WBO and IBF titles. I’m going to be defending them with blood, sweat and heart, and also with the willingness to deliver a great fight for the people who are coming to see me from very far away.”
The notion that Foster (25-3, 12 KOs) is a pure boxer who doesn’t want to get his hands dirty irks him. The 33-year-old from Houston wants Navarrete (40-2-1, 33 KOs) to know that he won’t exactly stand and bang with him, but he won’t be running, either.
“It’s the sweet science,” Foster said. “I’m a do what it takes to get the win. I’m coming to dominate. I’m a show him come Saturday, he doing all that talking like he’s just this tough guy, I’m a show him I’m tough, too. He’s gonna feel a lot more than a jab, I promise him that.”
