Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez is bringing us behind the curtain.
Netflix announced Thursday they will be releasing a feature-length documentary on the four-division Mexican champion. Unanimous Media, co-founded in 2018 by NBA superstar, Stephen Curry, will produce the doc, which will focus on Alvarez's trilogy series with rival Gennady 'GGG' Golovkin. Juan Camilo Cruz will direct, with a release date TBD.
In total, Alvarez and Golovkin shared 36 rounds in the ring together, starting with their September 2017 contest, which ended in a controversial split decision draw. Alvarez held onto his Ring 160-pound title that night while Golovkin kept hold of his WBC, WBA and IBF belts.
The pair fought again a year later and Alvarez came out on top with a majority decision victory. A trilogy clash, for Alvarez's undisputed super middleweight titles, took place in September 2022 but was nowhere near as entertaining and ended in a wide decision victory for Alvarez.
Alvarez has some history with Netflix. His defeat to Terence Crawford last September was aired by the 300 million-subscriber streaming giant and watched by over 40 million globally.
Golovkin, 43, hasn't fought since his final defeat to Alvarez but at the end of 2025 was elected the President of World Boxing.
Alvarez will return to the ring in September against an opponent TBA.
“The 12th of September, a big, big, big fight,” announced Turki Alalshikh, chairman of Saudi Arabia’s General Entertainment Authority and owner of The Ring, on Alvarez's next fight. “And this will be the first card for Canelo Promotions. It will be named ‘Mexico Against the World.’ All the fighters from the team of Canelo against the world. And [Alvarez] in the main event [for] a world title, and it will be a surprise in Saudi Arabia, in sha Allah.”
