If the Ring's No. 1 135-pounder wants to hold onto his WBC lightweight title, he may very well have to face Foster at some point.
Shakur Stevenson might be one of the best defensive fighters on the planet, but O’Shaquie Foster believes he has him backed into a corner.
“You next!” Foster told Stevenson on his X account. “Don’t run nowhere, chump.”
If the Ring's No. 1 135-pounder wants to hold onto his WBC lightweight title, he may very well have to face Foster at some point. The 32-year-old cruised to a lopsided decision against Stephen Fulton this past weekend in San Antonio. In doing so, he picked up the WBC interim strap.
Foster (24-3, 12 KOs) will soon have a decision to make. The Houston native also holds the WBC 130-pound title. Although he hasn't decided which division he’ll campaign in, he’s made it known that Stevenson (24-0, 11 KOs) is his top target. For now, though, the Olympic silver medalist has his eyes set on becoming a four-division champion.
Stevenson, 28, is officially moving up in weight to take on Teofimo Lopez for his Ring and WBO 140-pound titles on January 31 in New York’s Madison Square Garden.
When last seen, Stevenson grabbed arguably the most impressive victory of his career when he easily outpointed William Zepeda on July 12. Prior to that, he picked up a rare stoppage win against Josh Padley on February 22.
Lopez (22-1, 13 KOs), who has scored six victories in a row since an upset defeat to George Kambosos in 2021, appears to be the only fighter on the two-division champion's mind.
