The Ring views him as the No. 1 fighter in the world. So do some of his peers. But if you asked Oleksandr Usyk, he’ll tell you it’s someone else.

“I think it’s Terence Crawford,” Usyk admitted to Carl Froch during a recent sitdown.

Crawford, who’s ranked behind Usyk and Naoya Inoue on The Ring’s pound-for-pound list, may move up a spot or two if he grabs an upset win over Canelo Alvarez.

On Sept. 13, Crawford (41-0, 31 KOs) will officially move up two weight divisions to take on Alvarez for his undisputed super middleweight throne at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, Nevada, presented on Netflix.

Crawford, 37, already believes he’s the No. 1 fighter in the sport but is convinced that a win over Alvarez will force everyone to share the same sentiment.

The argument for Usyk himself will receive an extra boost if everything goes according to plan in the next few days.

Saturday night, at Wembley Stadium in London, Usyk (23-0, 14 KOs) will bring his Ring, WBA, WBC, and WBO heavyweight titles to the dance floor. Dubois, on the other hand, will arrive with his IBF strap for their DAZN PPV headliner.

A win for Usyk will make him a three-time, two-division undisputed champion. Still, even if he beats Dubois, and anyone else in the heavyweight division, Usyk wants everyone to stop calling him the best fighter on the planet. Only one man should be given that honor and he resides in Omaha, Nebraska.

“I’m not the best fighter in the world,” Usyk continued. “That is Terence Crawford.”
