ANAHEIM, California – Oscar Collazo beat Jesus Haro into submission, and after six one-sided rounds, the fight was stopped in the corner Saturday night at Honda Center.
Collazo (14-0, 11 KOs) dominated the outmatched Haro (13-4, 2 KOs) in what amounted to a stay-busy fight, outlanding him 157 to 57 in defense of his Ring, WBA and WBO strawweight titles.
After absorbing a fight-high 45 punches in the sixth round, Haro didn’t answer the bell for the seventh round, and the fight was waved off.
The victory was the seventh stoppage win in eight fights for Collazo, whose title reign kicked off in 2023.
“I was roughing him up with my body shots, and I saw him breathing heavily, so I stepped on the gas pedal to stop him,” said Collazo, who landed a total of 64 body shots.
Collazo, a 29-year-old Puerto Rican promoted by Miguel Cotto and Oscar De La Hoya, is No. 10 in The Ring’s pound-for-pound rankings and now appears headed toward a title unification bout and rematch against WBC champion Melvin Jerusalem this summer.
Collazo stopped Jerusalem in seven rounds to become a first-time titleholder in May 2023. Jerusalem (25-3, 12 KOs) is on a five-fight winning streak since suffering the Collazo fight.
“It’s very important for me to become the undisputed champion,” said Collazo. “I’m going to be top five in the pound-for-pound rankings by the end of the year.”
