If you don't ask, you don't get and Raymond Ford has a golden opportunity to become a two-weight world champion against an in-form titleholder in O'Shaquie Foster later this month.
Former WBA featherweight champion Ford (18-1-1, 8 KOs) has been adamant that his skills are superior to the current 130-pound titleholders, with WBC ruler O'Shaquie Foster chief among them.
The 27-year-old will get his chance centre stage against an in-form beltholder already eyeing more lucrative fights and opportunities, should he make another title defense after a comfortable night's work against an overnight Stephen Fulton in December.
Foster, five years his senior and with more championship experience, will be motivated to dismiss another challenger while bolstering his sneaky impressive opposition resume. Many deem their matchup a genuine 50-50 and it'll be interesting to see who prevails on May 30 at Houston's Fertitta Center, exclusively live on DAZN.
Foster said plenty during an entertaining discussion previewing their matchup last week, though his upcoming challenger was similarly open. He sat down with The Ring's Rick Reeno to discuss several topics, including:
- Boxing origins: being troublesome growing up, an older kid taking him under their wing
- Watching and relating to Floyd Mayweather, then Adrien Broner and others
- How he became friends with Shakur Stevenson
- When did he first hear of O'Shaquie Foster? Where does the disdain beteween them come from?
- Takeaways from Nick Ball defeat, unsatisfied by becoming a two-division champion, Hall of Fame targets
