Richard Torrez makes his 2026 debut and it's a big one, facing Frank Sanchez in a final world title eliminator for Oleksandr Usyk's IBF heavyweight strap.
They were originally slated to feature on the Sebastian Fundora-Keith Thurman undercard March 28, before Sanchez withdrew through a minor knee injury.
Shining on an even bigger stage, away from home in an iconic destination like The Pyramids of Giza in Egpyt, was a no-brainer and Torrez has scope to flourish on a stacked card, exclusively live on DAZN PPV come May 23.
Plenty of eyes will be on the heavyweights preceding Oleksandr Usyk-Rico Verhoeven. Torrez is being heralded as America's best in the sport's glamour division, but what did he have to say in conversation with The Ring's Rick Reeno? They touched on several topics, including:
- Exercising patience after Sanchez's minor knee injury
- This journey to this point, from high school valedictorian and amateur success
- Why was he close to retiring before turning pro?
- Learning lessons from his dad, protecting brain health
- Talking pressure and assessing Moses Itauma, a potential future foe
Their full sit-down interview is now available to watch and stream across all platforms. Scroll down below and enjoy the episode! 🥊💥
