Super middleweights Simon Zachenhuber and Pawel August put their unbeaten records on the line on the undercard of Tyson Fury-Arslanbek Makhmudov last Saturday.
The fight was deep on the undercard at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium and someone's 0 had to go.
At the conclusion of six-rounds, referee Reece Carter scored the fight 58-56 for August, who entered as a 6/1 (+600) underdog.
"It was amazing, I didn't feel the pressure," August (18-0, 7 KOs) told The Ring. "I was just thinking even though it was only a six-rounder, it was the biggest fight of my life. I just got on with it.
"After the third round, I gassed out, I was fighting on my heart. When I watched it back, I reckon I won four rounds and lost two.”
The 30-year-old who originally hails from Walbrzych, Poland but now resides in Taunton, England, only got the call to face Zachenhuber (28-0, 17 KOs) at 14 days before the fight, when Troy Williamson dropped out.
"They shot themselves in the foot because I haven't trained,” he said. “Before we found out, I did two weeks training and got ill for three days, and we found out we were fighting but I wasn't in the best condition.
"At first, they wanted 10-rounder, then eight and they dropped to six, so we were like, 'Yeah, definitely.'"
"The Polish King," who works a day job for SBS, a transportation company at Hinkley Point Power Station, made the most of the late call and can now expect other opportunities to come his way.
"We'll see," he said. "Apparently they want a rematch, we'll see what opportunities have opened up and we'll take the best fight."
His trainer Dean Lewis, who also trains junior middleweight Rourke Knapp and female prospect Tiah Mai Ayton, is thrilled for his fighter and believes bigger things are now on the horizon.
"I thought it was a good fight, two undefeated guys they both wanted it bad," he said. "I just felt Pavel's relentless pressure and will to win pushed him through the fight and got the win on short notice.
"I think the rematch is a good fight, I think both guys deserve to do it over 12-round for a title whether that be in England or Germany. If they don't want the rematch, hopefully, he can get another big opportunity off the back of it but this time with some notice."
