Ginjiro Shigeoka will follow his brother’s lead and embark on his own revenge tour.

The Ring has confirmed that the former IBF strawweight titlist is in line to challenge Pedro Taduran, his lone conqueror. The two are due to meet in a rematch on May 24 in Osaka, Japan, as confirmed by Taduran (17-4-1, 13 KOs) to local media in the Philippines.

Taduran is The Ring’s No. 2 strawweight; Shigeoka (11-1, 9 KOs) is No. 5.

The attractive matchup will serve as part of a Kameda Promotions show that already included the Angelo Leo-Tomoki Kameda IBF featherweight title fight.

Manila’s Taduran reclaimed his old belt in a stunning ninth-round stoppage of Shigeoka last July 28 in Otsu, Shiga, Japan. The unbeaten Shigeoka was The Ring’s No. 1 strawweight at the time of the massive upset.

The incredible feat saw Taduran become a double nominee in The Ring’s 2024 Year-End Awards for best comeback and biggest upset.

Neither boxer has fought since that night. The setback only added to what was a forgettable year for the Shigeoka family.

Yudai Shigeoka (9-1, 5 KOs), Ginjiro’s older brother by two years, suffered his first defeat in a twelve-round decision to Melvin Jerusalem last March 31 in Nagoya, Aichi, Japan. Jerusalem became a two-time titlist as he claimed Shigeoka’s WBC strawweight belt.

Both have lodged one win apiece since their meeting and—as previously reported by The Ring—will meet again in the last week of March. Their bout will serve as part of a two-day ‘Lush Bomu Vol. 4’ festival at the Sky Expo in Nagoya.

Jerusalem is The Ring’s No. 1 strawweight; Yudai is No. 4, one spot ahead of his younger brother. Oscar Collazo (11-0, 8 KOs) is The Ring/WBA/WBO champion.

Ginjiro and Yudai Shigeoka both began their title reigns on the same Oct. 2023 show in Tokyo.

Yudai Shigeoka dethroned long-reigning WBC strawweight titlist Panya Pradabsri (then 40-1) via twelve-round, unanimous decision. Ginjiro Shigeoka was far more emphatic in a fifth-round knockout of Daniel Valladares (27-3-1 at the time) to life the IBF belt.

The southpaw brothers both fought on the same March 31 show; Ginjiro extended his reign by one fight after a second-round knockout of Jake Amparo, shortly before Yudai lost to Jerusalem.
