Callum Simpson can look to the future after avenging an upset loss by Troy Williamson in December, beating him on points last Saturday.
After suffering a shock stoppage loss to Williamson on December 20, the popular super middleweight battled to a hard fought unanimous decision win during an all-action rematch, regaining his British and Commonwealth titles.
Post-fight, Simpson (19-1, 13 KOs) said his goal is to box for a 168-pound world title at Oakwell Stadium in his Barnsley hometown next summer. On that ambitious trajectory would leave him the best part of a year to continue working with his new trainer Rob McCracken. So, who should the 29-year-old fight next?
Niall Brown: If Simpson chooses to stay at domestic level and defend his British title, Brown (18-0, 7 KOs) looks a likely option. The Stockport puncher is rapidly improving, has been brought in to spar his agemate and will back himself to step-up in levels, much like Simpson did after 18 months under the Boxxer promotional banner.
Simon Zachenhuber: The German contender exceeded expectations in defeat against WBO champion Hamzah Sheeraz in a world title tilt last month. Produce an impressive display and Simpson would have a useful but dangerous marker on his back to a wider audience.
Kevin Lele Sadjo: The Frenchman has been linked to fight the British fan favorite for years. The former European champion has won four fights since losing a spirited 12-round decision against Diego Pacheco on December 13.
